Editorial Policies

Focus and Scope

CICIMAR Oceánides publishes original scientific papers either in English or in Spanish, with a marine scope, i. e. Topics on marine biology, ecology and geology, physical and chemical oceanography, as well as meteorology, fisheries, fisheries politics, marine policies, marine bioeconomics, and aquaculture.  CICIMAR Oceánides is intended as an international mean of scientific communications that abides by scientific method, and encouraged by peer reviewing.

All original manuscripts not submitted simultaneously to another journal will be considered. Contributions may be: extended scientific Articles or Notes. Likewise, technical or methodological contributions are accepted. The journal considers also reviews and essays within the scope of the journal. Articles may be submitted by express invitation of the editorial committee. Replies to papers previously published in CICIMAR Oceánides are also accepted. 

CICIMAR Oceánides  reserves the right to use anti-plagiarism detection software in any new submitted manuscript.

Peer Review Process

CICIMAR Oceánides ensures a double blind review between pairs. Every manuscript is first reviewed by a member of the editorial council who verifies the pertinence of the manuscript in the journal and then proposes three possible reviewers.


Publication Frequency

CICIMAR Oceánides is published twice in a year. Each volume includes two issues, one in June and other in December.


Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.



This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...


Originality Letter Example


The following is an example of an originality letter that must be signed by the correspondence author (signatures from coauthors may be included) and attached as a supplementary file in any new manuscript submission.



Dear Editor,

Please find attached a new manuscript that describes the [main subject of the manuscript]

This letter constitutes a declaration of originality for the material contained in the manuscript titled:

[manuscript title]

 that is intented to be published in CICIMAR Oceánides.

My signature on this letter constitutes my agreement that the aforementioned work is original and contains no unidentified material (eg, text, illustrations) from other copyrighted or unpublished works; that I have provided complete source material for such copyrighted or unpublished works; and that I understand that the refusal of the copyright owner and/or the owner of any other rights to grant written permission to CICIMAR Oceánides, means that such material must be deleted from my work.

My signature also indicates my understanding that CICIMAR Oceánides may submit my manuscript to any online plagiarism checker, and in the event that plagiarism is found, CICIMAR Oceánides will be unable to publish the manuscript.

My signature on this letter indicates that the inclusion of all the co-authors in the manuscript is justified and that they have contributed the necessary to be acknowledged with the status of co-author.
